Mr. Weis's Welcome Page

I'm John Weis, and I teach science and reading on Team 6-4. I have been teaching since 1989 and at Horizon Middle School since 2007. My wife's name is Chris and she teaches 4th grade at Emerson Elementary. I have two adult children who live and work in Colorado. I am an assistant coach for cross country and basketball at Horizon.  I am looking forward to this upcoming school year and building relationships with the Horizon Middle School students!
What are we going to learn about this year?

The sixth grade standards and indicators help students gather, analyze, and communicate evidence. They formulate answers to questions tailored to student interest and current topics that may include, but are not limited to: How can energy be transferred from one object or system to another? How do the structures of organisms contribute to life’s functions? How do organisms grow, develop, and reproduce? What factors interact and influence weather and climate? How does water move through Earth’s systems?

READING

This literature-based class promotes the development of reading skills through the use of a balanced literacy approach. Emphasis is given to story elements, vocabulary development, and comprehension strategies. Students will be placed in classes according to their reading level.
