Welcome! Mrs. Williams has math students that demonstrate GRIT!

Hello!  I'm Mrs. Williams and I teach 8th grade Math and Algebra I. We have a team of supportive teachers and staff to help you develop self autonomy in this crucial year for the transition to high school.

Although 2023 marks my first year teaching 8th grade Math and Algebra I, I've been teaching math to sixth graders at Horizon Middle School since 2008.  I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary and Middle School Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 2004. After student-teaching and work as a math interventionist in Houston, TX, I officially began my teaching career in 2005 as a 7th grade math teacher at Westridge Middle School in Grand Island, Ne, the town where I was born and raised.   I completed my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction at UNK in 2009.  Following the completion of my degrees, I've continued to take classes, webinars and workshops that fuel my passion for teaching and engaging students.

I firmly believe we are all mathematicians! In my classroom, students are encouraged to give their best effort and view mistakes as opportunities to learn.  With this growth mindset, students make huge strides in their mathematical abilities! I'm very excited about the deep exploration and understanding of our 8th grade math content through Eureka Squared. The main topics include: integer exponents including scientific notation, congruence and similarity, Pythagorean Theorem, proportional relationships, lines, and linear equations, functions, volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres, relationships between bivariate data, and classifying real numbers.  This class is a foundation for Algebra 1 which covers contents: Content includes variables, formulas, real numbers, solving linear equations, polynomials, factoring polynomials, rational expressions, solving linear inequalities, graphs of linear equations and inequalities, linear systems in two variables, square roots and operations with radicals, quadratic equations, functions and graphs, and solving rational equations.

I also believe that communication is vital for student success! I care deeply about the students and families I serve each year! Please reach out to me with questions, concerns, and/or struggles ( or share some good news and celebrations) via:
